Bigger Stories for Little Folks is a half-step between Little Stories for Little Folks and Devotional Stories for Little Folks, building on the phonics and reading skills developed in Little Stories and preparing the student for Devotional Stories.

The “Greg stories” in this volume reinforce all the lessons of Little Stories for Little Folks, providing extra phonics and reading practice for those who need a little more, and pure enjoyment for those early readers who can’t wait to read a “real chapter book.”  Stories are longer than those in Little Stories for Little Folks but shorter than those in Devotional Stories, offering a comfortable transition between instructional phonics and higher level reading.

  • 21 chapters
  • Word attack and sounding-out exercises introduce each story
  • Gentle review–words and sounds from the previous lesson are repeated in the next

Students and families who are familiar with Greg and the Peterson family from Devotional Stories, and have been begging for more “Greg stories,” will be no less delighted with this “prequel.”

Nancy Nicholson is one of the founding authors of Catholic Heritage Curricula. Equipped with an abundance of God-given talent, a major in Secondary Education–English, and years of experience homeschooling her own children, she has written over thirty educational titles, beginning with Little Stories for Little Folks. Her unique ability to develop programs and workbooks that “fit” both advanced and struggling students is due to her experience raising children of different ability levels and learning styles: two of her children are developmentally challenged, while another went on to graduate from Harvard and is now a college professor.

We just used Bigger Stories for Little Folks with our second grader this year. She loved reading aloud the sweet and funny stories about Greg and his family. Yay!
