Art Masterpieces: ABC Collection

Art Masterpieces: ABC Collection consists of 26 full-color Art Cards and an accompanying Teaching Booklet with detailed picture studies. The paintings have been chosen with the goal of instilling in a child an interest in beauty, composition, color, and line. The glossy, high quality art cards are printed on thick cardstock and are sized for small hands to study and manipulate. To complement the other topics a child is learning at this age, the art cards and picture studies reinforce the alphabet, colors, shapes, and numbers. 

This collection of art masterpieces features 26 paintings by artists such as Sargent, Renoir, and Hokusai, each paired with a letter of the alphabet. The accompanying Booklet helps children learn the alphabet, colors, shapes, and numbers while learning to enjoy great art. Why teach art appreciation?
The experience of beauty in art helps to form the mind and heart to pursue truth and goodness. As Prof. John Crosby has said, “the child who is raised to respond to the beautiful is thereby sensitized to all that is good and right and worthy.” Taking time to expose our children to great art gives them the opportunity “to contemplate the ray of beauty that strikes us to the quick, that almost ‘wounds’ us, and that invites us to rise toward God” (Benedict XVI).
